vs Booksy

Booksy brings the marketplace.
Solovi brings your own site.

Booksy Biz is around £40 a month, plus £5 for each extra team member, plus card processing. If you switch Boost on, a new client’s first visit costs 30% of that booking as a one-off fee, with a £5 minimum plus VAT. Solovi is one flat monthly fee, 0% platform commission on every booking, and the website is part of it. Both models work, they just suit different businesses.

No credit card. No setup fee. 30-day money back on paid plans.

Honest comparison, same product, same prices, no marketing fluff.

First, the fair bit

What Booksy is genuinely good at

Booksy is a proper product with a large consumer app behind it, and that app is the real reason people pay for it. If someone in your town opens Booksy and searches for a barber, you can be in that list. For a new business with no client base and no following, that kind of discovery is genuinely hard to replicate on your own.

The booking tools are mature too. Reminders, deposits, no-show protection and calendar management have been refined over years and a lot of salons run happily on them. If your diary is full and the marketplace keeps sending you new faces, there is no particular reason to move.

So this page is not an argument that Booksy is bad. It is an argument that the two products solve different problems, and that which one fits depends almost entirely on where your clients come from.

The numbers

What Booksy costs in the UK

Booksy Biz is around £40 a month, plus about £5 a month for each extra team member, with card processing on top like any other platform.

The part that catches people out is Boost. Boost is the marketplace promotion, and when it is switched on, a client who finds you through it costs you 30% of their first visit as a one-off fee, with a £5 minimum plus VAT. It is not charged on repeat visits, and it is not charged at all when Boost is off.

You may have seen Booksy described as taking "1.5% per booking". That figure does the rounds online and it is not accurate. Booksy does not charge a flat commission on every booking, and we would rather say so than let a wrong number make our own case for us.

The actual difference

It is about whose front door you send people to

On Booksy, your booking page lives inside Booksy. That is the point of it. The marketplace can introduce you to someone who has never heard of you, and in exchange your clients book through a shared app where other salons are one tap away.

Solovi does the opposite. We build you a website on your own domain, put the booking system inside it, and connect Stripe so payments land in your bank account. There is no marketplace, no shared listing, and no other business alongside yours. Your clients book on your site, and the relationship is between you and them.

That trade is the whole decision. Booksy will bring you people you would not otherwise meet, and charges when it does. Solovi will not bring you anyone: it gives you somewhere to send the people you already reach through Google, Instagram, word of mouth and your own front window, and takes 0% of what they spend.

So which one suits you?

Stay with Booksy if

  • You are new, or new to the area, and need to be found by people who do not know you yet.
  • A real share of your diary comes from the app rather than from your own channels.
  • You have run the sums on Boost and the new clients it brings are worth the 30% first visit.
  • Your setup works and moving it would cost you more time than it saves.

Look at Solovi if

  • Most of your clients are regulars, or find you through Instagram, Google and word of mouth.
  • You want a proper website rather than a profile inside someone else's app.
  • You would rather pay one predictable monthly fee than a fee that scales with new clients.
  • You do not have the time or the inclination to build and maintain a site yourself.

Plenty of businesses do both for a while: keep the marketplace for discovery, and move the regulars onto their own site. That is a perfectly sensible way to test it without betting the diary on us.

If you do move

Moving across from Booksy

1. Get your client list out first. Export your customers from Booksy before you cancel anything. It is your data and you will want it whatever you decide.

2. Send us your services and hours. You fill in one form. We build the site, load your service menu and prices, set up the booking rules and connect Stripe. That is our job, not yours.

3. Run both for a few weeks. Point your Instagram link and your Google Business Profile at the new site, and leave Booksy running while you watch where bookings actually come from. If the marketplace is carrying you, you will see it.

4. Then decide. Cancel Booksy, or keep it for discovery and take your regulars direct. Nothing about Solovi requires you to switch off anything else.

We are live in 7 days or your money back, and paid plans have a 30-day money-back guarantee, so the downside of trying it is small and bounded.

Questions people ask

Does Booksy take a percentage of every booking?

No. Booksy charges a monthly subscription, and a one-off 30% fee on a new client's first visit only when Boost is switched on. Repeat visits are not charged. The "1.5% per booking" figure you see quoted online is not accurate.

Can I keep Booksy and use Solovi as well?

Yes, and quite a few people should. Keep the marketplace for finding new faces, and send your regulars to your own site so those bookings cost you nothing extra. There is no exclusivity either way.

Will I lose my clients if I leave Booksy?

Export your client list before you cancel and you keep their details. Your regulars book with you because of you, and a link in your bio and on your Google profile is usually enough to move them. Clients who only ever found you through the marketplace are the ones worth thinking hardest about.

Does Solovi have a marketplace like Booksy's?

Not in the same sense, and we would rather be straight about that. We run a UK directory at solovi.co.uk/find where paying customers are featured above other listings, but it is a growing web directory, not an app with millions of installs. If discovery is the only thing you need, Booksy is currently better at it.

What do I actually get for the monthly fee?

A website on your own domain, built for you, with online booking, deposits, card payments through Stripe, loyalty cards and customer messaging. Higher tiers add gift cards, a small team, local SEO and a fully custom design. No commission on any of it.

How established is Solovi?

The platform is built and running: bookings, deposits, Stripe payments with Apple Pay and Google Pay, gift cards and loyalty are all live. Booksy has years and a large user base on us, which is worth weighing.

A note on this comparison. This page is general information to help you weigh up your options, not financial, legal or business advice. The figures were accurate to the best of our knowledge when this page was last updated, but third-party prices and terms change often, so always check the provider's own website before you decide. Booksy is a trademark of its owner and we are not affiliated with or endorsed by them. We make Solovi, so we are not a neutral party, and we have tried to be fair and accurate throughout. If you spot anything out of date, let us know and we will put it right.
